Dan Hinz serves as Research and Operations Director at IMS Legal Strategies, leading the dedicated team responsible for sourcing and recruiting technology experts for complex intellectual property litigation. Dan joined IMS through the acquisition of Teklicon, for which he was instrumental in earning and maintaining a reputation as the premier technology expert witness provider in the IP arena. Dan facilitated the combination of the firms’ proven expert search methodologies to strengthen expert candidate alignment on matters requiring swift responsiveness and strong, well-matched expertise.
During his career at Teklicon, Dan assisted clients in sourcing experts for such notable cases as the “smartphone wars” between Apple and Samsung, the LG Chem v. SK innovation Li-ion battery matter in the International Trade Commission (ITC), the medical device matter between Arthex and Smith and Nephew, and trade secrets including a two-billion-dollar case between Appian and Pegasystems. He led the development of an automated project tracking and management software that enabled the company to expand efficiently while remaining responsive to client requests. He also helped establish standard operating procedures to maximize the team’s performance.
Dan has a BS in electrical engineering from the US Naval Academy and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. Prior to Teklicon and IMS, he worked in the semiconductor manufacturing equipment industry and the chemical industry and served as an officer aboard submarines in the US Navy. In his spare time, Dan enjoys hiking, backpacking, cycling, amateur radio, volunteering, and spending time with his grandkids.
