08.25.23

At IMS, we believe our people are our greatest asset. In honor of our incredible team, we are thrilled to go “beyond the bio” and share the personal stories of employees across our organization.

At IMS, the revenue operations department plays a critical role in monitoring our client’s existing cases and providing intelligence to aid in future litigation. They are not only the first point of contact for all conflict checks; they stay ahead of industry trends and share crucial developments across the company.

“RevOps” team members Sarah Lee and Jakia Turner both began their professional careers at IMS and have made invaluable contributions to colleagues and clients alike. Read on to learn how Sarah and Jakia found the litigation industry, what they enjoy most about their work, and more.

Sarah Lee, Revenue Operations Manager

Q: How did you get into this industry?

A: I started as an intern as part of a mentorship program at the University of West Florida, and my mentor, Bob Ozburn, introduced me to Bill Wein. I had no idea companies like IMS existed and thought it was fascinating. Like any young college student, I wanted to dash off to New York City when I graduated, but my mentor advised me to stay and pursue a full-time opportunity. I liked the team I was working with, the company culture, and the fact it was in my hometown, so I asked about open positions at IMS and made myself at home!

Q: What do you like most about your specific department and/or role?

A: I tell people that I don’t believe I could ever be in any other department: I am nosey and want to know how every process through the entire company works! Operational departments are unique in that way—we touch everything and support everyone. It is the greatest accolade to say that the intelligence we delivered to a client relationship manager resulted in a successful outcome or that our system knowledge helped a teammate work more efficiently.

Q: What internal accomplishment are you most proud of?

A: When we were transitioning our systems to Microsoft Dynamics, it felt like we were preparing to climb Mount Everest and we were the sherpas. Helping colleagues across different departments to navigate this new program was a huge win for our team.

Q: Are there any stories or memories you care to share?

A: One of my favorite memories is landing the third-place award in our chili cooking competition back in 2019. I came behind two of our big IMS “foodies” and master chefs, so I was really proud of my little pot of chili. These non-work activities help me feel like IMS is a family and continue to keep those bonds between coworkers strong!

Q: What do you think sets IMS apart from competitors or other companies?

IMS provides an unmatched, white-glove service—we care about our clients and their needs. We have a stake in the relationship and are dedicated to providing service and care throughout the lifecycle of a case.

Q: How do the IMS core values align with your own?

A: The value “Operate as One” has always been my favorite. I have a supportive personality, so I want to see others succeed. Many of the initiatives that we roll out put this value at the forefront, and they enable us to be in lockstep with our client relationship and consulting teams to help address their needs.

Q: If you were an attorney-client or an expert witness, what would you find most valuable about the process at IMS?

A: Our team has incredible experience, so clients and experts alike should know and feel confident that we can manage everything from the usual “day-to-day” requests to trickier searches and complex litigation needs.

Q: Do you have any predictions or comments on industry trends?

A: I’m interested to see how some of the upcoming product liability matters play out—we’ve been discussing them a lot on our team and their future impact, growth, etc. I’m curious to see if those predictions come true and/or how they manifest in the judiciary.

Jakia Turner, Case Research Specialist

Q: How did you get into this industry?

A: I focused on research while pursuing my bachelor’s degree in history and worked closely with my team to find a single African-American man from the later 1800s whose story and memories have been lost in time. After experiencing the power of research and teamwork, I was compelled to expand my horizons and intertwine my passion for history, research, collaboration, and execution.

I was introduced to IMS by someone who was familiar with the company, and I immediately took the chance. Despite joining a new environment during a pandemic, everyone offered positive energy and patience and made me feel right at home. I’ve enjoyed every moment of my two years at IMS.

Q: What do you like most about your specific department and/or role?

A: My current role as a case research specialist is everything I have prepared for. I enjoy studying society and uncovering information that is not always common knowledge. Also, my department is the closest thing to a work family I have ever experienced. Everyone is very easy to talk to and always eager to help.

Q: What internal accomplishment are you most proud of?

A: I am very proud that I’ve been a consistent performer while continuing to learn and adapt to change. This is possible because I work among understanding individuals who value mental health and understand we are people first.

Q: Are there any stories or memories you care to share?

A: I first joined IMS as a temporary employee but knew I wouldn’t find a kinder, more understanding work environment. I am grateful for taking the initiative to ask my superiors if there were any other opportunities where my skills could be used because there is no other company I would rather invest my time in than this one. I work with the most amazing team, and I always feel valued.

Q: What do you think sets IMS apart from competitors or other companies?

A: The teamwork is impeccable. I cannot imagine a better chemistry or work ethic than the employees of IMS. Everyone communicates and works together for the success of the company. Each department acts as a limb of the body; one cannot function without the others.

Q: How do the IMS core values align with your own?

A: I resonate with all of IMS’s core values because I am all about teamwork and operating as one. The mission is bigger than any individual here, but it does take everyone’s effort to accomplish the goal. Knowing I am doing my part provides me with humble confidence. Because I am responsible for what I contribute to the body of IMS, I am equipped with a mindset of ownership thinking, which in turn forces me to submit my work with quality and excellence. Wonderful work equates to a pleased client, and that is my way of honoring the relationship.

Q: If you were an attorney-client or an expert witness, what would you find most valuable about the process at IMS?

A: If I were an attorney, I would take notice of the efficiency and precision of the workload and rest assured that my case is in the right hands. I would also admire the working relationship. IMS offers many services for a variety of cases and practice areas, so we often support the same firms on different matters. I believe these strong client relationships have a lot to do with the character of our employees and the reputation we have as a company.

Q: What has been your favorite case to work on so far?

A: I enjoy working on fraud and product liability cases, and I have been particularly interested in recent litigation related to hair straightening/relaxing products.
