Megan Hempel, QA Specialist

Q: How did you get into this industry?

A: After more than 10 years in journalism, I had served in every newsroom position from intern to editor and was ready for a big change. I wanted a new career where I could continue doing what I loved and enjoy a better work/life balance. I have always been interested in the judicial system, so when I found the quality assurance position at IMS, I thought it was too good to be true.

Q: Why did you choose IMS?

A: I was familiar with the role of expert witnesses but had never considered how they made it to the courtroom. I was fascinated by the uniqueness of the business and inspired by IMS’s commitment to personal and professional excellence. From first contact through the hiring and training process, and every day since, I have felt valued and supported.

Q: What do you like most about your specific department and/or role?

A: I love that we can assist other departments with various projects. I have learned so much about my colleagues and the services we offer while collaborating on expert presentations, articles, graphics, and more. Our department is committed to continuous improvement, and it is never boring.

Q: What internal accomplishment are you most proud of?

A: I am most proud of our work revising the style guide and other training materials. It feels good to work together to develop our skills and improve our product. I also recently earned my Poynter certification through a seven-course program for editors reinforcing fundamentals and best practices. It is something I have wanted to do for a long time, and I am grateful for the opportunity.

Q: Are there any stories or memories you care to share?

A: My best memories so far are of meeting so many interesting and talented people. I have also been honored to receive some special recognition from colleagues. Their kind words have given me great encouragement, and I am so proud to be part of their team.

Q: What do you think sets IMS apart from competitors or other companies?

A: IMS’s ability to meet our clients’ diverse needs quickly and efficiently is invaluable. The expertise and insight we offer along with our wide range of services provide meaningful support to our clients.

Q: How do the IMS core values align with your own?

A: I am proud to be part of a team that celebrates diversity and encourages us to use our individual talents to “Operate as One,” promoting strong relationships and a commitment to quality.

Q: If you were an attorney-client or an expert witness, what would you find most valuable about the process at IMS?

A: IMS values teamwork and communication—the foundation of any successful relationship. Our strong principles and accomplishments demonstrate our dedication to providing the best experience possible for everyone involved.

Q: Do you have any predictions or comments on industry trends?

A: The effects of the pandemic changed how we communicate and apply technology. I believe the increased outreach and availability will continue supplying new opportunities for advancement across ours and many other industries.

Q: What has been your favorite case to work on so far?

A: I do not have a favorite case, but I enjoy reading about our unique cases and research. IMS’s case studies and articles detail interesting expert searches, litigation dynamics, jury trends, and a lot more; I’m always learning something new.

Kaylah Rusher, Associate Recruiter

Q: Why did you choose IMS?

A: I was introduced to the industry through a friend at church. We had just moved across the country, and I was looking for a remote job since my husband’s career keeps us on the move. IMS is flexible with employment across the US (in most states) and the work culture is amazing. The core values showcase how everyone operates as a team, and I was really drawn to that.

Q: What do you like most about your specific department and/or role?

A: I like being in the middle of everything and knowing how a case progresses from the first expert request to the moment of placement. It is unique to be able to see how each individual plays a part in the success of finding and engaging the best expert witness for each client.

Q: What internal accomplishment are you most proud of?

A: I helped transition our role from “project service coordinators” to “associate recruiters.” It was challenging at first to reform job roles, but it ultimately ended up being rewarding as we developed new skills to fit the needs of the position and provided feedback on how the role should evolve.

Q: Are there any stories or memories you care to share?

A: My team put together a virtual baby shower for me before I went on maternity leave. It was such a kind gesture and made me feel loved and appreciated.

Q: What do you think sets IMS apart from competitors or other companies?

A: I love how IMS works on an individual level—not only with our clients but also with each other. Although most of us are working virtually, we do not shy away from opportunities to talk and communicate when needed. I always feel like I can reach out for assistance, and I think our clients feel the same way.

Q: How do the IMS core values align with your own?

A: I love the core value “Honor the Relationship” because it helps me want to be my best self for our clients and all of those I work with at IMS. We honor the relationship with everyone we encounter. When we focus on this as part of our work culture, everything runs a lot smoother.

Q: If you were an attorney-client or an expert witness, what would you find most valuable about the process at IMS?

A: I love the candid way we operate with our expert witness candidates. There are no behind-the-scenes facts; we let them know everything up front without strings attached.

Q: Do you have any predictions or comments on industry trends?

A: I can see IMS continuing its impressive growth to meet the needs of our clients. As we continue to broaden our infrastructure, I anticipate expansions within the company to offer more flexibility with full- and part-time positions. It is unique to be part of a growing company, and I love seeing new opportunities arise that benefit our teammates as well as the clients and experts we support.

Q: What has been your favorite case to work on so far?

A: I do not have a specific favorite—each case presents new and interesting opportunities where I learn about so many different industries I did not know existed before.
